Smooth registration for 1,200 at Politeknik Kuching

KUCHING: The registration of students for the first session of June 2014 at Politeknik Kuching yesterday went smoothly from 8am to 3pm.

It saw the admission of around 1,200 students who will be studying Electrical, Metrochemical, Mechanical and Civil Engineering, Commerce and Information Communication Technology (ICT).

According to Politeknik Kuching Students President Raphael Isaih Langgi, yesterday was also the commencement of orientation week for the new students, the programme to last for a week.

After completing their registration from 8am to 3pm, the new students were required to follow the orientation programme at the education institution from 3.30pm to 6pm.

“In order to facilitate students and parents with the essential items, the cooperative will also be operating their sales counter at the new cafeteria to reduce congestion.

“Overall, the registration process today (yesterday) can be described as smooth sailing apart from some minor problems that can be rectified,” he said.

Meanwhile, Politeknik Kuching was abuzz with the presence of parents and family members accompanying their children for  registration which was at two locations: foyer of the College Female Residence for female students while the new cafeteria was for male students.

The management of Politeknik Kuching held a talk on scholarships, PTPTN and registration procedures followed by a Q&A for parents at Block D’s Recreation Room. It was presented by the head of department of Politeknik Kuching Students’ Affairs.

To facilitate registration, the management set up a PTPTN counter, secretariat counter, photocopy and printing service, cooperative, cyber centre and clinic.
