LAHAD DATU: Seven employers have been compounded RM4,500 since Ops Kesan was implemented by the district Social Security Organisation (Socso) from January to May, this year.

District Socso manager Joharia Acho said of the seven employers, five were compounded for failing to register their business and employees, as well as contributing to SOCSO, while another two were compounded due to late reporting of accidents involving their workers.

They were charged under the Social Security Act 1969 and the General Regulations of Employees Social Security 1971 that provides for a fine of RM10,000 or two years’ imprisonment, or both, upon conviction.

“Ops Kesan aims to ensure that every eligible company and employee is registered in the Social Security Scheme.

“Ops Kesan will be extended to bring awareness and understanding to the employers of their responsibility to ensure the employees’ welfare is not neglected,” she said after launching the Socso Localising Programme with community leaders here yesterday.

During the programme, a question and answer session was held covering various areas, including proposed bilateral cooperation for the programme that could benefit the youth and rural villagers. Also present was Tawau Division Officer from the Ministry of Youth and Sports Office, Jamil Jilap.
