KUCHING: Nine finalists from ‘Anugerah Carta Sapa Juara?’ (ACSJ) are set to paint Betong red this Saturday when they sing for the coveted ‘Juara Lagu’ title in the ACSJ finals at Dewan Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan from 6.30pm onwards.

Organised by RTM Sarawak’s WAIfm (Iban) under the patronage of Deputy Chief Minister Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu and Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah, the inaugural event is expected to be officiated by Uggah and will feature six local solo artistes and three local bands who were selected based on their popularity with listeners last year.

“They will be performing the songs ‘live’ at the finals and compete in three categories, namely Best Performance and Best Vocalist in addition to the ‘Juara Lagu’ title,” said REDfm manager Affendy Julaihi on behalf of RTM Sarawak director Salmah Ibrahim Melina at a press conference yesterday.

The nine songs which will be performed are ‘Nuan Bujang’ by Leez Zwita, ‘Bajik’ by Hevance, ‘Aku Rindu Ke Nuan’ by Jeffery Jack, ‘Agi Menais Litan Demalam’ by Melissa Francis, ‘Nadai Agi’ by The Crew, ‘Pengunjung Pengerindu’ by James Jacob, ‘Kelalu Laun’ by Lucy M, ‘Langit Petang Di Lindung Remang’ by James Ruai and ‘Kumang Seari’ by Masterpiece.

“The champion for ‘Juara Lagu’ (Best Song) will walk away with a trophy and cash prize of RM3,000 whereas the Best Performance and Best Vocalist winners will win RM1,000 each as well as trophies,” Affendy revealed, adding that cash prizes and trophies worth RM28,500 will be awarded to winners and finalists of the ACSJ finals.

Meanwhile, WAIfm producer Bana Jimbat said that ACSJ was introduced based on the encouraging response from listeners throughout Sarawak, West Malaysia and Brunei since the ‘Carta Sapa Juara?’ show was launched in July 2011.

“The ‘Carta Sapa Juara?’ is one of WAIfm’s (Iban) shows which focuses on quizzes and entertainment concept and airs every Saturday from 3.30pm to 5pm,” he said.

According to him, the main objective of ACSJ was to serve as a platform for local singers and composers to share ideas and foster closer ties while at the same time elevate the Dayak music industry towards becoming a global icon through RTM.

“In addition, ACSJ also makes RTM the exclusive broadcasters of Dayak or Sarawak ethnic songs which can thus establish unity and integration among the multi-racial 1Malaysia community,” he added.

Also present at the press conference were WAIfm (Iban) organiser Thomas Tegong Laka and deputy organiser Simon Muyang.
