KOTA KINABALU: A father is worried about his son’s safety after he was allegedly threatened by a businessman.

The 60-year-old retiree said out of fear for his personal safety and that of his wife and children, his son, a contractor had not come home for the last few days.

Shi Chen Leong claimed that the person who had threatened his son via phone calls and Short Message Service (SMS) is a firearms dealer.

The threats started after his son lodged a police report against the firearm dealer on June 10 at the Inanam police station, he said.

It was alleged that the firearm dealer had threatened to hire someone to break his son’s arms and legs, or to shoot him, as he was unhappy with the additional claims made by his son for renovation works done to his house.

“Fearing for his safety, my son has not come home in the last few days, leaving his wife and three children at home. This is because the firearm dealer knows where my son is staying,” Shi said during a press conference here yesterday.

He reiterated that the police must not ignore the police report lodged by his son simply because the firearm dealer is allegedly ‘well-connected’ to a certain top police personnel in the state.

“He (the firearm dealer) even warned my son that he can always make use of his good connection with the police to set upon him and to banish him to other parts of the country. The fact that he has the guts to issue threats to my son through calls and SMSes after the police report shows that he is not afraid of the cops,” said Shi.

He thus urged the police to act promptly to investigate the matter, before any untoward incident happened to his son. Failing which, he said he would bring the matter to the higher authority, including the police disciplinary section in Bukit Aman.
