KENINGAU: The police here said the incident involving a local man lying on the five-foot way of the shops here on Sunday afternoon was not due to attack involving illegal immigrants.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Robert Salisip @ David who confirmed the incident yesterday, said the man collapsed in front of a computer store near a bank here about 1.30pm on Sunday, and did not involve any criminal element.

“The evidence we have from witnesses who saw the incident was that the 64-year-old man from a village here fell by himself at the location.

“The victim was walking but suddenly fell, and his head banged the cement floor of the five-foot way of the shop. Police personnel who arrived at the scene controlled the situation,” he said.

Robert said the victim was sent to Keningau Hospital by an ambulance and during the incident, his details were not taken because he could not speak.

He also dismissed rumours spread through the social media Facebook that the victim was stabbed or slashed by illegal immigrants.

He said the victim was suffering from epilepsy and fell, causing his lips to bleed. This was confirmed by the victim himself.

Recently, three men were injured in a street fight in Keningau town.

A 23-second video of the fight, believed to have been filmed close to the town’s fish market showing a group of men being chased by a person armed with a fish skimmer, went viral.

Robert said that incident was due to a misunderstanding and police had arrested a 34-year-old fishmonger for investigation under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting.
