KUNAK: The police are looking for one of the kidnapped victims identified as Mazlan, who was abducted with his employer from a fish farm at Kampung Air Sapang, Kunak on Monday.

According to the officer-in-charge of criminal investigation, Senior Assistant Commissioner Omar Mammah, Mazlan had gone missing after he escaped from the kidnappers and met one of his employers.

Police believe Mazlan has gone into hiding as he has no documents.

However, Omar said they hope Mazlan will come forward to assist in their investigation.

“We have no idea of Mazlan’s whereabouts. We only know that a person, who claimed to be Mazlan, had met one of the fish farm owners and told him about the incident.

“Mazlan told his employer that he managed to escape from the kidnappers by jumping off the boat and swimming towards the mangrove area and hid till morning before meeting his employer at 10am,” he said.

Meanwhile, Omar said so far there had been no contact from the kidnappers and no demands had been made.

Mazlan and one of his employers, identified as Chan Sai Chiun, 32, were abducted by a group of four armed men dressed in dark attire and wearing masks about 12.40am on Monday at the fish farm in Kampung Air Sapang.

This is the third kidnapping incident in the Sabah east coast this year. On May 6, a China national fish farm manager, Yang Zai Lin, was abducted by five gunmen at Pulau Baik, Lahad Datu while in April, a female Chinese national, Gao Hua Yuan, 29, from Shanghai and a Filipino woman, Marcy Dayawan, 40, were kidnapped at Singamata Adventures Reef and Resort in Semporna.

Omar also said that efforts were being made to rescue Chan and Yang.
