KUCHING: Sarawak-born national bodybuilder Buda Anchah has done it it again.

He defeated nine other contestants – two Singaporeans, two Cambodians, one Thai, Burmese, Filipino and Vitenamese – to win the 70kg category at the 12th Southeast Asian Bodybuilding Championship last Monday.

The competition, organised by the Singapore branch of the World Bodybuilding Physique Sports Federation (WBPF), was held at the University Cultural Centre, National University of Singapore from June 13-16.

Buda told The Borneo Post yesterday that it was his first win for 2014. He had even sacrificed his Gawai Dayak celebrations just to prepare for the competition.

“I did everything to prepare for this. It was not easy for me not being able to spend time with my family in Sarawak during the recent Gawai Dayak festival,” he said.

Buda revealed that he went through a strict diet and exercise regime, something which he
would be unable to do if he were to be with his family during the festival.

He dedicated his latest achievement to his family, the Malaysia Body-building Federation (MBBF), the National Sports Council (MSN), the Royal Malaysian Air Force and his country.

“Once again I would like to thank all who have given me the chance to shine. I could have not done it all by myself,” said the RMAF personnel.

He saw his Singapore victory as a “good omen” for his next assignment which will be the Mr. Asia championship to be held in Macau in September.

“No stopping for me as I will continue to do this for as long as I can. I do this all for my beloved Sarawak and my dearest country Malaysia,” he added.

Buda hails from Jaong, Sri Aman and he has been representing the Armed Forces in local bodybuilding competitions since he first competed in 1996.
