KENINGAU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Exco Youth chief Datuk Jake Jikulin Nointin has urged teachers, parents and pupils to always be aware of their rights as consumers.

He said this was to prevent them from being cheated by traders.

“As consumers, we have the right to goods bought because most vendors prefer making profits to selling quality goods to consumers,” he said when officiating at the Consumerism Talk organized by SK Pekan Keningau Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) here yesterday.

Jake, who is Liawan PBS chief, stressed the importance for every consumer to have consumerism knowledge.

He believes that by equipping them with knowledge they would be able to know their rights as consumers and buyers and avoid being manipulated by unscrupulous and irresponsible parties.

He said this knowledge could also help them get appropriate remedy if they were oppressed.

“I would also like to urge parents to continue to work with teachers in schools with the support and help of all the programs implemented by the school for the betterment of their children’s learning.

“I believe in the spirit of understanding, and giving full commitment to the school management can generate the excellence of students in their education,” he said.

Jake also asked the students to continue to work hard in their studies, especially those sitting for their Primary School Assessment Test (UPSR) this year.

Also present were the school headmaster John Anthony Kadau, parents, teachers and pupils.
