KUCHING: Bukan Lawan Nya stole the thunder of hot favourite stablemate Dream Catcher with a fine display of front-running prowess to take the Class One event in Race Five on Sunday.

The strapping four-year-old was in the right galloping mood on the firm track, making every post a winning one to score by 3 1/2 lengths, paying RM17 on the tote.

The Berjaya Stable’s roan colt – with two seconds in its last two starts — was moderately supported to snap that two-race losing streak but with the going in its favour, had little trouble finding the extra gear to vanquish the top class field.

Bukan Lawan Nya, trained by Tamizi Putit, was the second leg of a double for visiting Sabah jockey B Ramdin.

The runner-up and top bet Dream Catcher (Roslan Bujang) which won all its last four starts from the front, was kept off the pace in the early running.

The long-striding brown colt came with a late charge on the rails 200M out but was left with too much ground to cover to make a difference.

Bintang Kilong (J Aziz) flew home on the outside for third, a short head further back.

Berjaya Stable’s Ini Kali proved too good in Race Four (Class II – 1000M), cantering home by a street from Kampung Cantik with Naga Laut third 2 1/2 lengths adrift.

Ini Kali was the first leg of the double for B Ramdin.

Trained by Tamizi Putit, the seven-year-old brown racer paid RM5.

Peace Pipe (Roslan Bujang) scored a thrilling last-to-first victory in Race Two (Class Four – 1000M).

The nippy five-year-old which missed the start, and was still unsighted as the field swung into the homestraight, sprang a surprise when it came with a big run right on the outside to win drawing away by five lengths.

Perfect Dancer (E Hamid), shouted the winner 250M out, finished second with Nabila (A Philip) third, nine lengths further back.

Peace Pipe, owned by W Stable and trained by Tamizi Putit, paid RM10.
