Electricity returns to normal in South and Central Kalimantan

BANJARBARU, South Kalimantan: The flow of electricity in the province of South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan returns to normal, after had experienced outages due to interference in transmission network, Antaranews reported.

General Manager of PT PLN (Persero) Regional South and Central Kalimantan, Mursalin, here on Friday said, the flow of electricity to customers in the two provinces was normal since Friday morning at 01.00 am.

“Electricity normal throughout South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan since Friday morning and until now there is no more blackouts as it happens from Thursday afternoon until night,” he said.

He said the power outage caused by disturbances in the transmission network in Pelaihari and Asam-Asam Village in Tanah Laut District, thus it automatically caused power outage suddenly (trip).

When power trip experience, network transmission automatically up to four units of steam-fueled power plant (PLTU) Asam-Asam stalled, so the plant stops operating.

“Automatically, the cessation of the four units of the power plant as source of primary energy of Barito Electrical System caused power outages, resulting in a blackout,” he said.

According to him, the recovery of suddenly downed power flow takes a long time, so PLN immediately assigned officers to the field to recover the transmission network interference.

PLN is still not able to ascertain the cause of the transmission network disruption, but estimates lightning strikes or objects such as tree trunks that fell into the power grid as the cause.
