Not necessary to set up united front – Umno Sabah Youth

KOTA KINABALU: Umno Sabah Youth feels the setting up of the Gabungan Pergerakan Pemuda Sabah by its counterparts in three Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties is unnecessary.

Its assistant secretary, Mohd Bahrin Abd. Karim, said the move by UPKO, PBS and PBRS to set up the united front would appear to set aside the ‘esprit de corps’ of the youth movements in BN.

Mohd Bahrin also claimed that the action of the PBS, PBRS and UPKO Youth in signing the memorandum of understanding (MoU) to set up the united frnt appeared to show that they do not acknowledge the existence of the Sabah BN Youth.

“It would give the public the perception that there is no unity and cooperation within the Sabah BN Youth,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Mohd Bahrin was commenting on the signing of the MoU in Keningau on Saturday by PBRS, UPKO and PBS Youth to form the united front and forge closer cooperation between the parties concerned.

The signatories to the MoU were PBS Youth chief Datuk Jake Jikulin Nointin, PBRS Youth chief Arthur Joseph Kurup and UPKO Youth chief Arthur Sen.

According to Mohd Bahrin, Sabah BN Youth is a coalition of youth movements recognized by the BN leadership as a channel of cooperation and unity for all the parties.

“Therefore, Sabah BN Youth is the best platform for the component parties’ youth movements to fight for the rakyat’s, including the Bumiputera’s rights,” he said, adding that whatever suggestions given to improve what they are championing for or any claims to be made must be discussed within the Sabah BN Youth.

“So it is not relevant for the Gabungan Pergerakan Pemuda Sabah to be set up to demand for Sabah’s rights as the state BN and Federal governments are committed to the people, especially the Bumiputeras in the state,” the Kota Kinabalu Umno Youth chief opined.

He said the appointment of senior BN Sabah leaders in the state and federal cabinets proved that the rakyat’s interest is well taken care of by the BN government and their grouses can be aired through these appointments directly to the Chief Minister or Prime Minister.

“Umno Sabah Youth hopes the rakyat will not be confused with the setting up of this Gabungan Pergerakan Pemuda Sabah as it could serve to indicate that there is no unity within the Sabah BN Youth movements. We also do not want the opposition to take the opportunity to confuse the rakyat with the latest development,” he said.
