22 teams vie for Maksak futsal tourney

SARIKEI: The 3rd Sarikei Division Maksak futsal tournament, organised by Land and Survey Department this year, kicked off at the Ministry of Social Development complex here yesterday.

There are 18 men’s teams: Landas A, Landas B, Medical 1, MPB, Forest, DID, Maksak Julau A (IPD), Immigration, Rando, Kastam, Sesco A, Sesco B, PPD Sarikei, National Registration, Bomba Bintangor, RTD and Marine Department.

The women’s competition attracted four teams namely Medic Angel, Rando, Sokanjaya and MDS.

They are vying for the Sarikei Division Resident’s challenge trophy with teams finishing as champion, runner-up and joint third collecting the prize money of RM300, RM200 and RM150 respectively.

There will also be trophies for ‘Best Player’ (final match) and ‘Fair Play.’

In his opening remarks, Deputy Sarikei Resident Lim Hock Meng who represented the Resident Dahim Nadot, stressed the importance of sportsmanship.

“In pursuing your team’s and personal glory, always do it in the highest level of sportsmanship,” he said.

Players would be selected from the two-day tournament to represent the division at the Inter-Division Maksak championship to be held in Limbang from August 8 – 9.
