KUCHING: Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd (ETCM) sold 5,000 units of Nissan vehicles in East Malaysia last year with more than half accounted for in Kuching alone.

This, according to ETCM executive director Dato David Chen, was reflective of sales growth of more than 20 per cent since 2012.

This was also one of the reasons behind Nissan opening its first 3S Centre here in Kuching launched yesterday, making this one of Nissan’s largest in the country.

During the opening ceremony, Chen said, “The Kuching 3S Centre is out first in Kuching and the biggest in East Malaysia. We will continue to grow and expand for the benefit of our customers.

“Here, our customers and general public will be able to have a complete Nissan experience, whilst remaining true to our commitment to deliver quality, value for money products and high level of after sales service to meet the demands and expectations of our customers.”

Models such as the Nissan Sylphy, a C-segment sedan and Nissan’s answer to the Honda Civic/ Toyota Altis have proven to be a hit among Malaysians, he added.

To date, ETCM has 106 showrooms including dealers, and 59 Express Auto Service workshops throughout the country, with more planned for 2014 including Tawau and Glenmarie.

Chen said the company aims to have 18 3S centres throughout Malaysia before the end of the year.

Meanwhile, Kuching City South Council mayor Dato James Chan who officiated the event said Nissan’s efforts address the issue of economic hardships affected by the rising cost of fuel.

“Nissan cars have proven to be fuel efficient and go the extra distance. This will be a great form of relief in our battle to fight rising cost of fuel prices.

“Should this reputation prove to be true, I am sure potential car buyers would certainly check Nissan’s cars at any of the outlets around,” he said.

The new ETCM 3S Center sits on 1.58 acres with a total built-up area of 42,000 square feet. The modern layout boasts a large showroom that can display up to eight Nissan models at any time.

The workshop is equipped with top of the line equipment holding 23 service bays with the capacity to service up to 130 cars per day.

Also present during the event was Nissan Motor Asia Pacific vice president Shinichi Koyama and ETCM (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd director Cheng Mun Kean.
