‘Don’t ask if members still with SUPP’

SIBU: SUPP Central must stop sending letters to SUPP members in Sibu to ask for their membership status.

This call was jointly made by SUPP Sibu branch deputy chairman Vincent Goh, its former chairman Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh and former secretary Datuk Tiong Thai King.

In a press statement yesterday, they revealed that those who had received the letters were asked to state whether they would remain as SUPP members.

“The party central will just have to wait. They will soon get the answer from thousands of members, who will speak out even without their asking. These members are prepared to resign en masse because they have lost confidence in SUPP leadership.”

They also said although the Registrar of Societies (ROS) had lifted the ban on the party’s two branches and cleared the party from their probe, its president Tan Sri Peter Chin still owed members an explanation on allegations of irregularities in its branch elections in 2011.

“Party leaders have always claimed they will let conscience rule over them, but they have failed to let members see justice at the end of the day.”

In addition, they claimed that the party leaders had also failed to ensure that irregularities would not happen in future elections.

They said instead of clearing the air, the leaders went on to sack members, adding fuel to the fire.

“The scars caused by the doubts are imprinted in the party and members want to leave because they have lost confidence.”

They also argued that if the allegations were not addressed, members had the right to file for a court review because they had the right to know the truth.

“This is especially so for members who have been sacked. They should not be the sacrificial lambs if indeed there are unjust practices in the party.”

Those greatly affected, they said, were the grassroots members as they were the ones who had contributed much to the growth of the party.

“Instead, Chin and his men have turned the table around to blame them for taking the matter to the court,” they said.
