Sarawak and Sabah share honours in bowling circuit

Ervin Lim won the Boys Open title in the Sabah leg of the Sportexcel-NSC-Milo-MTBC Tenpin Bowling Junior Circuit at CPS Bowl Kota Kinabalu, Sabah recently.

KUCHING: Ervin Lim Wai Mun won the Boy’s Open title as Sarawak and Sabah shared the spoils in the Sabah leg of the Sportexcel-NSC-Milo-MTBC Tenpin Bowling Junior Circuit at CPS Bowl Kota Kinabalu, Sabah recently.

The 18-year-old kegler from Miri, who finished as runner-up in last year’s competition, had qualified as the top seed with 2,514 pinfalls. He beat teammate Mohd Uzair Irysad Noorazrul convincingly 222-175 in the step-ladder final.

Uzair, the third seed, had earlier disposed of second seed Sushanor Sihanor from Sabah 192-167 in the semi-final.

Finishing in fourth to sixth positions were Mohd Amir Syafiq Rozlan of Sabah, Razif Safini of Sarawak and Mohd Azmeel Wasli of Sabah.

Sarawak also bagged the Boy’s Graded title through top seed Alistair Ting Lik Yung who defeated second seed Nevern Netanel Marcellinus of Sabah 175-158 in the step-ladder final.

The Sabah lad had advanced to the final after beating Sarawak’s Abang Afiq Yazid Abang Azman, the third seed, 203-182 in the semi-final.

In fourth to sixth spots were Sarawak’s Abner Loo Chun Lik, Sushil Pubalan and Syazwan Hakim Sanin respectively.

Sabah swept the Girl’s Open and Graded titles through Kristie Ellie Jauw Shian Huei and Caroline Chua respectively.

Kristie, who qualified for the final as the top seed, had little difficulty in overcoming third seed Nur Safiqah Sajeli of Sarawak 211-164 in the Graded step-ladder final.

Third was second seeded Amanda Than Yin Xin of Sabah who had lost 191-197 to Nur Syafiqah in the semi-final. The fourth to sixth placed bowlers were Jocelyna Judith Jonathan, Jacelyn Ng Shuh Wun and Nur Aina Kamallia, all from Sarawak.

In the Sabah-dominated Graded contest, top qualifier Caroline lifted the title after beating second seed Siti Nur Aisyah Safar 204-172 in the step-ladder final.

Third was third seed Nurul Ayunni Junaidi who had lost 184-201 to Nur Aisyah in the semi-final.

Meanwhile, Sabah’s Mohd Zulhilmey Zulkiplee knocked down a total of 1,796 pins to win the Boy’s U12 title.

Muhd Nur Syafiq Mohd Amran from Sarawak was second on 1,725 pins while Nabil Aiman Mantaib of Sabah was third with his score of 1,538 pins. Another Sabah lad Douglas Dwayne Aldryne was fourth (1,511) while Awg Irfan Muqri Awgku Husni (1,505) of Sarawak and Sabah’s Abdul Hannan Taslim (1,475) finished in fifth and sixth spots respectively.

The Girl’s U12 crown was captured by Sarawak’s Dyg Yumi Azreen Abg Azman who felled 1,551 pins, followed by Intan Qistina Tamring of Sabah with 1,522 pins.

Third to sixth spots were occupied by Sarawak’s Asya Dania Azree (1,480), Rasya Aleeya Zainuddin (1,450), Nur Haziqah Ranli (1,425) and her sister Nur Hazirah Ramli (1,382).

Bowlers from both states will next compete in the Sarawak leg of the national junior circuit at Crystal Bowl in Kuching from August 7-8 to earn their berths to play in the Grand Prix finals later this year.
