BAU: SK Suba Buan has made the state and Bau, in particular, proud for being awarded cluster school status by the Education Ministry.

Bau district education officer Les Met said SK Suba Buan was the first and only one from this district to have received the accreditation thus far.

The accreditation is given based on the school’s results in all aspects, including its performance in examinations.

“I don’t know whether there are others in the state also receiving similar status, but as far as this district is concerned SK Suba Buan is the first ever,” he told The Borneo Post after the launching of the Bau District Education Transformation Programme by Assistant Community Development Minister Datuk Peter Nansian at Bau Civic Centre yesterday.

Les congratulated headmistress Janet Ikut and her team for the remarkable achievement, for which they earned RM100,000 for development of the school.

He hoped that more schools here would be accredited with cluster school status next year since they had submitted six nominations to the Education Ministry for consideration.

“What we hope now is that the schools concerned can improve or at least maintain their excellent performances.”

On the programme yesterday, which was attended by about 700 teachers from 41 secondary and primary schools in the district, he said it was aimed at preparing them to face new challenges in the fast-changing environment.

“We believe that in order to transform the district, we, teachers, must lead the way first.”
