Woman cheats death in car-tanker collision

SANDAKAN: A 27-year-old woman cheated death when her car collided with a tanker at Mile 18 on Thursday afternoon.

Police Chief ACP Rowell Marong said in the incident which happened around 3.50pm, the car’s driver, Shahira Irda Binti Sahrin, 27, who was on her way to Beluran from Sandakan Town had driven into the opposite lane before colliding with the tanker heading to Sandakan Town from Mile 30.

During the incident, the tanker tried to avoid the car by driving to the left side of the road before hitting an electric post.

Due to the impact, Shahira was pinned to the driver’s seat and had to be rescued by public. She sustained a head injury and is reported to be in stable condition at Hospital Duchess of Kent. The tanker driver was unhurt.

The case is being investigated under Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
