TENOM: Rural Development Minister Datuk Radin Malleh has urged community leaders to be aware of the current development issues taking place every day around them.

He said they should also strive to improve their efficiency and knowledge related to customs so that they can carry out their duties effectively, especially to meet the expectations of the people in their respective areas.

“All native community leaders should carry out their duty with trust, integrity and rational thought, especially when making decisions related to native community custom cases to preserve the image and credibility of this institution in the state,” he said when launching the Going to the Ground Programme organized by the State Native Affairs Council at Datuk Seri Panglima Antenom Hall here on Friday.

Radin said efforts by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government to achieve the development agenda in the rural areas of the state needed the support and cooperation of all parties, including community leaders.

He said the action taken by certain community leaders to support the opposition will retard development in their areas and affect their credibility among the people.

“Therefore, all community leaders should not engage in activities that could negatively affect the confidence of the political leadership and the people in their area,” said Radin, who is also Melalap assemblyman.

Also present at the event were State Native Affairs Council president Mohamad Haji Alamin and District Officer Madiyem Layappan.
