KUALA LUMPUR: Children’s Camp had over 100 children from five orphanages learning, playing and acquiring warm and lasting friendship at Inti International University recently.

The 10th edition of the annual social responsibility initiative of the university’s Leo Club, served as an opportunity for orphans to express their creativities and talents through games, team-building activities, songs and dances.

More than 200 Inti students volunteered as camp facilitators and the children’s guardians in the three-day two-night event.

“I’m proud there are many students who want to make a difference in the lives of those who are less fortunate. To have so many come forward and volunteer goes to show we have a lot of heart as a student community,” said Leo Club president Yugaataran Muniandy in a press release.

Organising chairperson Jehane Ackburally described her experience with Children’s Camp as “inspiring and humbling”.

Having worked hard with her team for over four months to prepare for the event, Jehane was glad it had touched many lives and brought joy to the participants.

“Seeing the children’s enthusiasm as they played and learned, and the happy faces all round, made me appreciate all the privileges I enjoy,” said Jehane, an international student from Mauritius.

Despite their short time together, the children and their facilitators were able to create a special bond and there were teary eyes as the camp came to an end. Promises were made to keep in touch via social media until the next opportunity to meet again.

Passion for community service and giving back to society has seen many Inti students participating in charitable events and societies on and off campus.

With strong support from faculty, they are given proper guidance in realising various initiatives to help the community.

Coupled with the right academic delivery and readily available cutting-edge facilities, Inti students are able to further enhance their learning experience by translating classroom and extracurricular activities into real-life initiatives.

These would lead to their acquisition of firsthand experience in event management, communication strategies and leadership development.
