KUCHING: A Magistrates’ Court here yesterday fined a man RM1,200 in default two months’ jail after he pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol.
The 32-year-old accused surnamed Chan was convicted under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1957, which carries a maximum fine of RM6,000 or a jail term up to 12 months.
He committed the offence around 12.20am on June 15.
Another man who was charged with rioting in public place was fined RM800 in default two weeks in jail.
Bong Chee Kion, 24, pleaded guilty to being involved in a brawl at the ground floor of a shopping mall in Jalan Song about 3am on April 19.
He was arrested on June 27 following a police report lodged against him.
Rioting, which comes under Section 147 of the Penal Code carries a penalty of up to two years, or with fine, or both on conviction.
