MIRI: Subis District Education officer Ahli Chikba encouraged parents to contribute more to school activities – be it sports, fundraising or others.
“Parental commitment encourages and enhances the team and competitive spirit among schoolchildren,” he said when officiating at the opening ceremony of SMK Bakong’s 31st Inter-House Annual Sports Championship.
The recent event was held at the school’s field in Bakong, about two hours’ drive from the city recently.
The students participated under four houses: Rosli Dhobi, Rentap, Syarif Masahor and Temenggung Jugah.
The championship was divided into `field’ and `track’ events: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1,500m, 4x100m, 4x400m, Long Jump, High Jump, Triple Jump, Shotputt, Discuss and Javelin.
SMK Bakong broke records in the triple jump, long jump, javelin throw and shot putt.
Drill champion was `Rentap House’, Sports House champion was Syarif Masahor that also had the most participants.
At the closing ceremony, the school’s Parent-Teacher-Association chairman Nelson Nulai thanked teachers and parents for their involvement and attendance, and praised athletes for breaking new records which brought pride to the school
