Hoteliers to fete underprivileged kids July 18

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Hotel Association will be hosting a ‘buka puasa’ dinner for children from the Sabah Cheshire Home and Seri Mengasih Centre on July 1, at the Best Western, Kinabalu Daya Hotel.

Its president, Christopher Chan said that it was the first of such event organised by the association.

“The ‘buka puasa’ event is our small contribution in giving joy and hope to the less fortunate children during this meaningful ocassion that they are remembred,” he said.

To raise funds for the ‘buka puasa’ event, the association will be organising a charity dinner on June 12 and 13, at the same hotel, aiming to collect the funds from members of the Sabah Hotel Association.

Dinner tickets will be sold to members of the association at RM100 per person, of which all proceeds will go to fund the ‘buka puasa’ event.

“The funds collected from the charity dinner will be used to fund the ‘buka puasa’ dinner, which includes the distribution of gift bags and some ‘duit raya’.

“And to encourage our members to contribute some donations for this purpose, the charity dinner will also consist of lucky draw session, where prizes include cruise trips sponsored by the Star Cruises,” he said.

Star Cruises Travel Service (M) Sdn Bhd Sales and Marketing executive, Vincte Lim, disclosed that the company would be sponsoring six prizes altogether, three for each night of the Sabah Hotel Association Charity Dinner.

“There will be two Penang-Phuket-Krabi cruise packages to be placed as one of the lucky draw prizes, and two Singapore-Langkawi-Phuket cruise packages, both of which is a four-day three-night’s trip.

“Then, there are two Hongkong-Taiwan cruise package, which will be put up as auctions. All proceeds will go to fund the ‘buka puasa’ dinner for the children of the two said organisations,” said Lim.

Chan disclosed that the association currently has a membership of about 80 among four-star hotels and below, as well as 40 associate members.
