KUCHING: Native land activist Luang Entiyang wants the police to investigate how photocopies of a cheque for RM150,000 purportedly issued to him by a legal firm here was making its rounds publicly.

Luang, who is Action Committee for the NCR Land of Melikin Land District chairman, told a press conference here yesterday he had no idea how the ‘cheque’, which was ‘issued’ about a year ago, came about because he never received it.

He said he was shocked when his son-in-law showed him the photocopy several days ago. His son-in-law had received it from the village headman on June 30 this year. Luang, from Kampung Tanah Mawang, said he lodged a report at the Serian police station on the same day (June 30) to clear his name.

“I never received the cheque nor do I know who issued it or from where it came from.

“I urge the police to investigate as I need to clear my name and also to avoid any problems from cropping up in future,” he told reporters at the Sadia office in Kota Sentosa.

He was accompanied by Ketua Kaum Patricia Pantau, Ketua Kaum Nyalu Tampa, Ketua Kaum Ajah Gunya from Ensebang and villagers Supa Unyit, Alan Surang, Singa Lensat and Barangka Sawing.

Luang said he viewed this matter seriously because there were several native customary rights (NCR) land disputes in Melikin Land District that involved villagers and private firms.
