Remains of gunner from military armoured vehicle accident brought back to Sri Aman

KUCHING: “Take care of our children well,” was Sergeant
Bayong Burma’s parting words to his wife Nancy Garang, 31, before going out on
the day of his accident for a convoy from Sungai Petani Airport Camp, Kedah to
Gemas, Negeri Sembilan to undergo a shooting training.
Sergeant Bayong, 36, a gunner with the Third Royal Armour Corps Regiment’s
Alpha Squadron was killed after the armoured vehicle he was riding lost control
and overturned at Km 232.6 North-South Expressway near Kuala Kangsar on
Thursday.

He had served in the military for 18 years.

His remains arrived at the Kuching International Airport here through the
MASKargo Complex at about 11.50 am today after it was flown from Bayan Lepas
International Airport, Penang at 7 am to Kuala Lumpur International Airport
before departing here at 10 am.

When met by reporters, Nancy, who was still sad over the loss of her
husband, did not say much and was seen being consoled by Third Brigade Commander
Brigadier General Datuk Mohd Nazir Mami while holding their youngest son, Casper
Lukas, aged 10 months.

Besides Casper, Nancy and Bayong who were married since 2002, had two other
sons, Aldraien Mark, 11, and Benedict Moses, eight.

Aldraien, the eldest son appeared not to grasp his father’s death and only
nodded his head and repeatedly called out “Daddy” when asked about it.

His casket was brought by nine personnel from the Fourth Royal Armour Corps
Regiment, Penrissen Camp to a military van and will be sent to his family’s
residence in Taman Desa Indah, Sri Aman, about three hours’ drive from here.
Corporal Che Mohd Patanah Che Ismail was also killed in the incident while
two other military personnel Corporal Sharifuddin Abdullah and Lance Corporal
Freaddy Barlabas were injured. – Bernama
