KUCHING: Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) hopes to foster closer ties with the local media by holding Sarawak Energy Media Award in October and Media Appreciation Night in December.

Its chief executive officer Datuk Torstein Dale Sjotveit said this at the breaking of fast with the media, orphans, the less fortunate and single mothers at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching on Friday.

“We hope the co-operation with the media fraternity here can be continued in bringing information to the consumers here. In fact, we have received many requests for a second visit to Murum to find out the true story of how the Penans are living in the area and what is really happening there,” he said.

He added that the best time for the trip would be some time in October, after the commissioning of the first turbine.

At the event, Torstein also presented ‘duit Raya’ to 30 orphans, children from needy families, cakes to single mothers and a donation to the Society for Kuching Urban Poor (SKUP).

Among those present were Kuching Division Journalists’ Association chairman Sulok Tawie, Commonwealth Journalists Association Sarawak Branch acting chairperson Alice Wee, SKUP secretary Col (Rtd) Fabian Wong, SEB corporate services chief Aisah Eden and SEB chief operation officer Lu Yew Hung.
