KENINGAU: A man was killed when the vehicle driven by him collided with a trailer loaded with cement at Km 7 Keningau-Apin-Apin Road early yesterday morning.

The lorry trailer ends in a ditch after the collision.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Robert Salisip @ David yesterday said the 31-year-old victim, Masirin Enin, a self-employed, came from Kampung Luagan here.

The Proton Wira car driven by the victim was coming from Keningau town while the trailer loaded with cement and driven by a 51-year-old local was from the opposite direction when the accident happened about 6.40am.

He said the car had hit the front right side of the trailer.

“As a result of the collision the trailer went into the ditch on the right side of the road while the car driven by the victim was badly wrecked,” he said, adding that the trailer driver was unhurt.

Robert said the victim was taken to Keningau Hospital and was confirmed dead from serious injuries to the chest, waist and legs.

An autopsy will be conducted at the hospital.

“The accident will be investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he added.

Meanwhile, Fire and Rescue Department district chief Janil Jaya said they received an emergency call at 6.45am and an engine with six personnel was deployed to the scene.

“Upon arrival, we found the victim in critical condition stuck in the driver’s seat of the Proton Wira. We used rescue tools to remove the victim and handed him over to an ambulance to be sent to Keningau Hospital,” he said.

The incident caused a traffic congestion due to the pile of cement bags strewn on the road. Once the cement bags were removed, traffic returned to normal and the operation ended at 7.44am, he said.

Meanwhile, Robert said another accident occurred at Bariawa Road here, involving a school bus, a Toyota Vigo and a Perodua Myvi.

He said the Perodua Myvi driven by a 21-year-old youth was hit by the school bus.

“As a result of the collision, the Myvi hit the Toyota Vigo which had stopped at the junction of a housing estate. No one was hurt in the accident,” he said.
