PUTRAJAYA: Homeless individuals who earn low wages can lodge a complaint at the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry through the Nur line 15999.

Its minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said, although such a form of oppression can happen, the ministry cannot take action if there were no complaints.

“Inform us if such a thing is happening, don’t keep quiet, because the government has implemented minimum wage ruling,” she told reporters after meeting Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk M Saravanan, here yesterday when commenting on grievances aired by the homeless who earn little despite the implementation of the minimum wage policy in January.

Implementation of the minimum wage policy was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on April 30, 2012 and the minimum wage in Peninsular Malaysia was set at RM900 per month and RM800 in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.

Meanwhile, 735 of the 1,560 people who have come to Anjung Singgah, a temporary shelter for the homeless, have managed to find jobs, since 2011. — Bernama
