JOHOR BAHARU: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Southern Region, detained a merchant ship for laying anchor without permission in Tanjung Piai waters, near Pontian Tuesday.

Johor Baharu Maritime District Enforcement Head, Maritime Captain Aminuddin Abd Rashid said the ship, Mt Eastern Force, was found to be anchored without permission at 4.2 nautical miles south-east of Tanjung Piai, about 12.05pm by the MMEA patrol boat which was carrying out an operation codenamed ‘Operasi Satria Selatan’.

“The patrol boat had approached Mt Eastern Force and an inspection found that the ship failed to report its arrival to the Malaysian Maritime Director, had berthed without permission and failed to pay the light dues,” he said in a statement yesterday. — Bernama
