More than 50 attend computer science and IT conference

MIRI: Over 50 academics, researchers and industry professionals attended the recent International Association of Computer Science and Information Technology (IACSIT) Conference 2014 hosted by Curtin University Sarawak.

The conference, organised by the School of Engineering and Science and supported by the Sarawak Convention Bureau, discussed advancements in a variety of scientific areas.

Sixty papers were presented at the event, which included three parallel conference sessions — the fifth International Conference on Manufacturing Science and Technology (ICMST) 2014, third International Conference on Intelligent Network and Computing (ICINC) 2014 and third International Conference on Computer Technology and Science (ICCTS) 2014.

The IACSIT Conference aimed to enhance theoretical grounding, practical knowledge and personal contacts to facilitate long-term, profitable and sustainable communication among researchers and practitioners with a common interest in manufacturing science and technology, intelligent network and computing, and computer technology and science.

Keynote speakers were Professor Sven Nordholm of Curtin University, Perth; Professor Alexander Gorin of Swinburne University Sarawak Campus; Professor Liyanage C De Silva of University of Brunei Darussalam; Dr Edwin Jong of Perunding Akal; and Associate Professor Jamaluddin Mahmud of Universiti Teknologi Mara.

In his welcoming speech, Curtin Sarawak pro vice-chancellor and chief executive Professor Jim Mienczakowski said the conference offered an excellent platform for the sharing of the latest innovations, research and practices in the delegates’ respective areas of expertise; exploring potential for industrial applications; and initiating further collaborative research in various fields.
