KUALA LUMPUR: The Philippine Government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) negotiating panels yesterday ended a special four-day meeting on the draft Bangsamoro Basic Law on a positive note.

In a joint press statement, they said the panels discussed the contents of the draft basic law as submitted by the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) and reviewed by the legal team of the Office of the Philippine president.

“They achieved modest progress and identified consensus language in the light of signed agreements.

“They resolved to continue working together to come up with a mutually acceptable draft Bangsamoro Basic Law,” said the statement.

The meeting, held in Kuala Lumpur, was hosted and facilitated by the Malaysian facilitator for the peace negotiations, Tengku Datuk Ab Ghafar Tengku Mohamed and observed by BTC members, as well as the International Contact Group.

Last March, the Philippine government and the MILF signed a comprehensive peace pact aimed at ending the decades-long armed conflict in Mindanao. — Bernama
