SANDAKAN: The blocked manhole and sewerage at several areas in town here are currently undergoing cleaning process by a contractor appointed by the Sandakan Public Works Department (PWD).
The cleaning will be conducted in stages at night starting from a manhole at Jalan Dua until the sewerage at Old Slipway area.
According to PWD special task/sewerage worker, Stanley Mohd Omar, the cleaning is conducted at night to avoid traffic congestion during the day and to respect the Ramadan month.
However, he said the task would take time to complete due to the irregular weather at night.
“Due to heavy rain these past few nights, the cleaning process will definitely be more time consuming. However, we will ensure that it can be completed before the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri,” he said.
Meanwhile, community development officer (CDO) for Tanjung Papat constituency, Wong Chee Kiat who observed the cleaning task, expressed his satisfaction towards the PWD’s commitment in solving the blocked manhole and sewerage issue.
