Shoe-throwing teacher removed from school

GEORGE TOWN: A male teacher, who allegedly threw a shoe at a female pupil in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan yesterday, had been removed from his school pending investigations into the case, said Deputy Education Minister P Kamalanathan.

Expressing his shock and disappointment over the incident, Kamalanathan said the incident would be investigated by the State Education Department and referred to the disciplinary committee.

“The incident should never have happened and the Education Ministry is not taking the matter lightly,” he told reporters here yesterday.

In the 9.30am incident, an eight-year-old female pupil needed three stitches on her right forehead after being hit by a shoe thrown by a male teacher in her class.

The teacher was said to have lost his temper as the girl was playing with two classmates during the incident.

In another development, Kamalanathan said the ministry had also removed a special education teacher from Sekolah Kebangsaan Bandar Mentakab, Temerloh, Pahang for yelling at a pupil and the headmaster.

He said the teacher was placed in a pool group while awaiting investigations and the case being referred to the disciplinary committee. — Bernama
