LABUAN: A mobile crane suddenly caught fire while on the road at Jalan Rancha Rancha here yesterday.

A spokesperson for Labuan Fire and Rescue Department Jason Bilin yesterday said their operation centre received a distress call from a member of the public at around 8.48 am informing about the incident.

“We managed to extinguish the fire on the mobile crane in less than 20 minutes after we arrived at the location.

“Six personnel were involved and we used fire-fighting foam to control the blaze as oil from the machine was involved,” he said, adding that the operation ended at about 10.19 am.

It was learnt that the mobile crane driver had stopped at the roadside after he noticed smoke coming out from his machine which soon caught fire.

Bilin said the cause of fire and estimated loss had not been determined.
