LAHAD DATU: The government is committed to addressing the water supply shortage in this district for the convenience of the people.
Lahad Datu Assemblyman Datuk Mohd Yusof Apdal said the government had taken two steps to cater to the need of water of the people in the district.
He said firstly, the government had allocated RM50 million to build a new water treatment plant that is capable of supplying 15 million millilitres of water per day.
“The allocation was given under the Emergency Water Supply Scheme (EWSS) which will be implemented soon and the new water treatment plant would be able to cater for about 30 to 40 per cent of water usage in the district.
“Concerned about the increasing need of water in this district due to development and increase in population, the government had agreed to allocate more than RM200 million as the long term solution to this problem,” he said.
Mohd Yusof said the RM200 million allocation would be able to solve the water shortage problem in the district and cater for about 300,000 residents.
Mohd Yusof was met after presenting contribution and assistance to 200 Asnaf in conjunction with the breaking of fast ceremony organized by Silam Umno Division with Silam Wanita Umno Movement.
Also present at the ceremony were Silam Wanita Umno leader Mizmah Appehdullah, Silam Puteri Umno leader Zuraidah Asdain, District Officer Iman Ali, District Council Executive Officer Fawzi Abd Kadir, government officials and Silam Umno committee members.
