KENINGAU: A senior citizen was killed when the four-wheel-drive vehicle he was driving crashed in a road accident that occurred at Kilometer 12 Sook-Tulid Road near Kampung Delayan Lama here on Thursday.
District Police Chief Deputy Superintendent Robert Salisip @ David said here yesterday that the victim, identified as Johan Lajip Abdullah, 76 died on the spot in the crash at 12.45pm after he lost control of the Toyota Hilux vehicle.
“Police investigation at the scene found tyre marks over 44 metres towards the spot of the crash. It is believed that the victim applied the brakes before the crash but the vehicle tyres did not grip the smooth road surface.
“Police believe the victim died at the scene due to the impact of the accident,” he said.
Robert said police investigation at the scene found that the road had been slippery due to rain and the road bend.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 while the victim’s body was sent to the Keningau Hospital for postmortem.
