KUCHING: Security personnel are not forgotten by the state government this Hari Raya as special Raya treats will be sent out to them tomorrow.

A total of six associations and bodies – Single Mothers’ Association Sarawak, Sarawak Kek Lapis Manufacturers Association, Society for Kuching Urban Poor, Kobera N.4 Pantai Damai, Dewanita DUBS Sarawak and Sarawak Indian Women Association – took up the task of preparing the goodies. The goodies packed in individual boxes include fruit cake, tarts, almond nestum cookies, beef floss, German crunch cookies, nuts, seaweed popia, muruku and nuts with cornflakes.

“There are 135 people from 13 associations and bodies who are packing these goodies into 5,600 boxes for distribution to the army, police, maritime enforcement agency and bomba and rescuers today.

“This annual event shows the appreciation by the state government for the security forces who work hard round the clock to ensure our security,” said Minister of Welfare, Women and Family Development Datuk Fatimah Abdullah during the packing of the goodies at Wisma Wanita here yesterday.

She hoped that the goodies will raise their spirits while carrying out their duties during the festive season.

“The packaging has improved this year, as well as the goodies which we had food-tasted (before Ramadan) to ensure that the items would be enjoyable.”

She also thanked those who volunteered to pack the goodies.

The official handing-over of the goodies will be held tomorrow at Bukavu Hall Penrissen Camp and Pahlawan Hall at GOF Camp Batu Kawa.
