Sains chief executive officer Dato Teo Tien Hiong disclosed that Sains will be carrying out a feasibility study for the Central Province and recommend a way forward towards implementing the same model that has transformed Sarawak into one of the top states in Malaysia utilising IT for the past 23 years.

“The Central Provincial Government of Papua New Guinea is looking at the Sarawak model of implementing IT which has been very successful here and made Sarawak very advanced.

“We have since agreed that we will work together with them to carry out a strategic masterplan study for IT in cooperation with our channel partner in Papua New Guinea, Ethix Technology,” he told reporters when met after the courtesy call made by Papua New Guinea Central Province governor Kila Haoda on Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Adenan Satem at his office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia here yesterday.

During the visit, Adenan witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between the Central Provincial Government of Papua New Guinea and Sains. Signing on behalf of Papua New Guinea Central Provincial Government was its provincial administrator Gei Guni Raga while Teo signed on behalf of Sains.

Also present were High Commissioner of Papua New Guinea to Malaysia His Excellency Veali Vagi and members of the delegation from the Central Province of Papua New Guinea.

Teo also pointed out that Sains will conduct a study within the next two to three months on the level of IT usage in the Central Province and their priorities, and recommend ways to implement e-Government solutions in the province.

“We are very hopeful and happy for this historic occasion with Papua New Guinea. If this is successful, which we have no doubt it will be, we will follow on with other collaborative activities,” he said.

In addition to Papua New Guinea, Teo revealed that Sains had also worked with other countries such as Brunei, New Zealand, Australia, Cambodia, Oman and Africa among others.
