KAPIT: Sarawak Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud has reminded the people against taking disputes over petty issues to the extreme, saying this can destroy harmony and impede the state’s progress.
The Quran also advocated this in the preservation of inter-racial unity and for any country to move forward, he said when officiating at the state-level Nuzul al-Quran at the Jabal An-Nur Mosque here last night.
“Muslims in the country have been able to celebrate the Nuzul Al-Quran in the full confidence that they can practise their faith freely.
“In the same manner, those of other faiths too have the same freedom in practising their chosen faiths,” he said.
Taib also advised the people to continue to understand each other well enough to further strengthen their unity.
“If we do not know each other well enough, we will not be able to tell the good from the bad,” he said.
Taib also thanked leaders of all racial groups in Sarawak for helping him to bring peace and progress to the state when he was the chief minister.
Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem, in his speech, said Muslims should always upgrade their initiative, creativity and proactivity in their effort to learn or teach Islam.
“Muslims must learn, understand, appreciate and practise the teachings of Islam. We should demonstrate good moral values. The Quran is the main and most influential source of reference for us,” he said.
