KUCHING: There have been no reports of terrorist activities in the state so far.

State police commissioner Datuk Wira Muhamad Sabtu Osman said this following the terror incident on Mabul Island in Sabah on Saturday.

“This incident affects us as a neighbouring state. We are beefing up the security at our borders. Our personnel are on the high alert and will be prepared to face any threats to the security of our state. That is all we can do right now,” he told reporters after a kuih raya distribution ceremony yesterday.

He added that Sarawak was sending General Operations Force personnel to assist their counterparts in Sabah but there has been no request for other police assistance yet.

On a separate note, Sabtu thanked the Welfare, Women and Family Development Ministry for the kuih raya.

“For those who will be working during Hari Raya and unable to celebrate with their families, this contribution
means a lot as it shows that we are not forgotten during the festive season. Our police force will continue to uphold our commitment to safeguard the security of the people.

“During the Raya season only 10 per cent are allowed to go on holiday while the rest will still be on duty,” he said.

Sabtu also reminded homeowners leaving their houses vacant during the holiday season to take precautions as well as to inform the police.

“There are many ways to inform the police, whether through SMS, Rakan Cop or others,” he said.
