Handball federation hope to win IHF Asian 1B Zone title

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Handball Federation (MHF) hope to emerge victorious in the International Handball Federation’s (IHF) Asia 1B Zone challenge scheduled in Johor Baharu in September.

MHF secretary-general Azizan Abu Bakar said the federation’s confidence was based on the team’s current performance in local and international competitions.

Six countries, Thailand, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines will be taking part in the Asia 1B Zone.

“We hope either the men’s or women’s team to clinch the title, especially after emerging runner-up in 2012,” he told Bernama, yesterday.

Azizan said the winners of each zones in Asia will qualify for the IHF Asia Trophy final in December which offers the winner a place in the IHF World Cup next year.

He also confirmed that the Malaysian handball team would not be featuring in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea. — Bernama
