Local claims trial to injuring wife

KOTA KINABALU: A self-employed local man claimed trial in the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday to injuring his wife.

Mazlan Abran, 37, was charged before deputy registrar of the High Court Ryan Sangirann Rayner Jr, who sat as a magistrate, with causing hurt to his 32-year-old wife at a house at Taman Bukit Setia in Sepanggar, Menggatal at 12.30pm on February 21.

The offence was framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to one year and also liable to a fine, upon conviction.

The court set August 8 this year for case management and released the accused on RM3,000 bail with two local sureties.

In an unrelated case, Kenolius Galiden, 30, will be tried on September 4 – 5 this year for allegedly causing hurt to a local man by using a knife.

Kenolius, who appeared before magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus, was accused of committing the offence in front of a house at Kampung Kinolingan, Inobong in Penampang at 2.30am on July 7.

Kenolius, represented by counsel Sazalye Donol Abdullah, was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code which is punishable by a jail term of up to three years or with a fine or with whipping or with any two of such punishments, upon conviction.

The magistrate granted him bail of RM2,000 with RM500 deposited with two local sureties and ordered him to report himself once in every two weeks at the nearest police station pending disposal of the case.

Prosecuting officer Inspectors Syahrin Ali and Azaman Hamat appeared for the prosecution.
