SIBU: Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) secretary-general Dato Sieh Kok Chi believes Malaysia can bag at least seven gold medals in the Commonwealth Games to be held in Glasgow, Scotland starting July 23.

Badminton, squash, weightlifting, track cycling, diving, rhythmic gymnastics and lawn ball are the sports he picked for Malaysia to win medals.

He attributed this to the improving standard in sports in the country.

“We have improved our standard.

“Before 1998, we only won medals from badminton, and when we hosted the game in 1998, we started to win some games.

“We are now winning medals in more than five sports,” he noted.

He also commented on Sarawak and Sabah hosting some sports in the 2017 SEA Games.

“We did it in 2001, where we had games in Johor Bahru, Penang, and Kuala Lumpur.

“After we had done that, other countries followed, which is good.”

He added, “We are Malaysia, you see, and SEA Games never come to this part of Malaysia, so we are still considering.”
