KUANTAN: The woman driver of the white Peugeot car, who is alleged to have bullied an elderly man using a steering lock, has been called to give a statement at the Kuantan District Police Headquarters to assist in the investigation.
Kuantan OCPD, ACP Abdul Aziz Salleh said besides the woman, the senior citizen who became the victim in the incident had also given his statement.
“The police view the matter seriously and are carrying out detailed investigation under Section 427 of the Penal Code for causing mischief and Section 506 of the same Code for criminal intimidation,” he said.
He disclosed this to reporters after a briefing on crime prevention involving supermarkets, banks, goldsmiths, pawn shops, 24-hour convenience stores, petrol kiosks and security companies, here yesterday.
Commenting further on the case, Abdul Aziz said initially the incident was reported at the traffic branch, but police took appropriate action based on the recordings uploaded on the social website since Monday.
“Police will take appropriate action although the senior citizen is learnt to have forgiven the woman’s act. We don’t want Malaysians to become like this, having no discipline on the road and becoming road bullies.
“Such acts should not become our culture. Although it is an isolated case, the police still consider it to be serious,” he said.
At the same time, he said police had issued a traffic summons on the senior citizen for his offence.
Meanwhile, he also advised the public against making negative comments on the incident on the social website.
“Leave the matter to the police to investigate and we will take action after the investigation. Members of the public need not make unnecessary comments,” he said.
The incident occurred at about 1.10pm on Monday at the parking lot of the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC), when a 68-year-old government pensioner who was driving a Toyota car was reported to have knocked the left side of a Peugeot 208 car driven by a woman.
The minor accident made the 30-year-old woman from Bandar Jengka angry and acted to seize a steering lock from the senior citizen’s car before knocking on the car.
It is learnt that the woman also grabbed the senior citizen by his shirt and seized his car key although her car only had scratches on the rear bumper.
The accident was recorded by members of the public who were at the scene and was uploaded onto several social websites until the video lasting 2.33 minutes became viral and ‘trending’. — Bernama
