KENINGAU: A disabled twin sisters at Kampung Alab Lanas Sook here have attracted the attention of Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Ellron Alfred Angin.

The twin sisters are now stranded at home due to polio and receive a monthly assistance of RM300 each from the government through the Social Welfare Department’s chronic care assistance scheme.

While visiting the two children yesterday, Ellron said the government was concerned for the welfare of the three brothers and sisters because they are now under the care of their grandmother following their parents’ divorce.

“Another younger sister of the twins also belongs to people with special needs. Like the twin sisters, the younger sister also gets aid from the Social Welfare Department through one of its care schemes.

“The department maintains and monitors the needs of the siblings from time to time,” he said in response to allegations of Pensiangan Muslim Care chairman Hishamudin Sulaiman through social media Facebook recently.

Ellron, who is also Sook assemblyman, said Hishamuddin claimed that the government had ignored the plight of the three children which was not true.

“We do not block any non-governmental organization (NGO) from providing assistance but let the aid be given in good faith and should not be exploited for publicity and deny the assistance being provided by the government,” he said.

Hishamuddin, in a brief video clip in Facebook recently, claimed that the government did not take note of the plight of three disabled sisters in the village.

According to Ellron, the three disabled sisters had actually been receiving monthly assistance for a long time from the government through the Social Welfare Department.

Ellron and Sook Sub-District welfare officer Dollie Juliet Gabrine visited the home of the three children and presented food items and daily necessities on Thursday.

Others who also visited the children were Sook Sub-District Assistant District Officer Primus Takom, Sook Community Development Leader Charles Ikang, Sook Community Development Officer Abdul Kunin Saili, Sook Social Welfare Department officials and Sook Community Development Leader Unit staff.

On the same day, Ellron and his entourage also attended a breaking of fast ceremony at Kampung Mansiat Sook.

Speaking at the event, Ellron said allocation for the village’s KAFA Class building costing RM250,000 had been approved by the government.

He also presented food contributions to 20 needy families in the village.
