KUCHING: State renowned bodybuilder Dr Malvern Abdullah has received blessings from the Malaysian Body Building Federation to represent Malaysia at the Mr Asia Bodybuilding Championship in Macau next month.

According to Malvern, the national bodybuilding body had agreed to name him to the national team after a meeting last Monday.

“I would like to thank MBBF for placing their trust in me to represent Malaysia at the prestigious championship,” he said yesterday.

The 39-year old lecturer at UiTM Samarahan said he will make the best of the chance to represent Malaysia and strive his best to win glory for the country.

Malvern was selected based on his sterling performance at the Mr Malaysia Bodybuilding Championship at the Youth and Sports Complex in Putrajaya last month where he won the light weight category, ‘champion of the champions’ and best poser as well as helping Sarawak to clinch its first overall championship title.

He is also eyeing to compete in the Mr World Bodybuilding Championship in Mumbai, India this November.

“That will depend very much on my performance in Macau.

“If I can give a good showing in Mr Asia, MBBF will pick me for the world meet,” said the father of three.

Malvern became serious in bodybuilding in 2005 and has been the Mr Sarawak champion since until 2013 in various categories such as bantam weight, light weight and welter weight.

He was also Mr Sarawak champion of champions from 2011 to 2013.

At the national level, Malvern was runner-up in the light weight category in the Mr Malaysia in 2008, 2011, 2012 and 2013 before claiming the champion’s title in June this year.
