BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: Regional Water Company (PDAM) Bandarmasih, Banjarmasin, has begun cooperation with garbage banks with a unique proposition, Antaranews reported.

Director of PDAM Bandarmasih Ir H Muslih on Saturday explained, the form of such cooperation involves placing public trash bins at the garbage bank where depositors can offset their tap (water) bills. “You’ll be able to pay the bills with your garbage in the garbage bank,” he told reporters in Banjarmasin.

He said he has communicated the possibility of cooperation with a number of garbage banks in Banjarmasin, with even the possibility of PDAM giving aid to garbage bank who’s committed in implementing the programme.

“We can help with a computer later for the garbage bank,” he said, as he revealed there are about 10 trash banks cooperating with PDAM.

According to him, the programme will help the area cope with the cleanliness of the environment and attempt to save the flow of river and soil pollution from rampant discard of household waste.

“In this case we also communicate with the Head of the Regional Environmental Agency (BLHD) H Hamdi and waste banks initiator activator Fathurrahman,” he continued.

A possibility of future expansion of this programme may also include electricity and telephone bill payments should this programme prove successful.
