KUDAT: Minister of Special Tasks, Datuk Teo Chee Kang, has urged local politicians and community leaders in Kudat to be the government’s eyes and ears and to alert the security forces of any incursion or kidnapping attempt in the district.

Although Kudat is not one of the six districts where the 15-day dusk-to-dawn curfew is imposed, Teo said local political parties, community leaders, including Chinese kapitans, village heads or village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) chairpersons must always remain vigilant and report to the security forces of any suspicious activities so that immediate action could be taken.

Teo, who is also Tanjung Kapor assemblyman, added the people in Kudat should not listen or disseminate rumours of incursions, abduction attempts and the curfew because it would create panic among the people.

He said this when attending a breaking of fast event with 200 Muslims, local politicians and community leaders at the Kudat Golf and Marina Resort here on Friday. Teo also presented Raya money to Muslim friends who attended the event.

Teo said he had been briefed by the army and police officers, who gave the assurance that Kudat is safe from intruders.

Hence, he urged the people in Kudat not to believe in unverified information disseminated via short messaging service (SMS) or Facebook by irresponsible quarters.

Teo gave the reassurance that the security forces in the district were capable of ensuring the safety of Kudat waters, adding that domestic and international tourists need not fear about visiting Kudat.

On the other hand, he said Sabahans should unite and support the security forces who are protecting the security and sovereignty of our country in the wake of the security threats in the east coast.

Teo added mutual respect and solidarity were vital in our multicultural society to achieve political stability, prosperity and harmony in our country.
