KOTA KINABALU: The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) presented four resolutions yesterday during the joint annual general meeting of Inanam, Likas, Api-Api and Moyog divisions here yesterday.

The first resolution urged the government to speed up the construction of the flyover proposed at Jalan Damai and Jalan Bundusdan to lessen the traffic congestion problem.

It pointed out that the traffic congestion problem in Kota Kinabalu area is turning from bad to worse, especially during peak hours. Workers in the affected areas have to spend more time on the road causing a lot of unproductive hours to the economy.

The second resolution urged the government to urgently improve the public transportation system in the city by providing more proper bus stops, bus stations and designated lanes for public transport vehicles.

It was stated that the construction of the north and south bound bus terminals in Kepayan and Inanam also needs to be completed urgently so that the proposed long-term master traffic plan can be put in place.

The third resolution urged the government to improve internal security following from the increasing number of crimes such as car theft, robbery, mugging and house-break-in cases, especially in the city area.

LDP urged the Minister of Home Affairs to instruct the police force to allocate more manpower to carry out frequent patrolling in shopping areas, housing estates and public parks, especially areas with high crime rate.

Frequent police presence is believed to be able to help deter the occurrence of crimes in these areas.

The resolution also urged the police to make full use of social media to get cooperation from the public in crime prevention and to provide information.

The last resolution stated the urgency for the government to provide assistance to the tourism industry in Sabah which was greatly affected by the intrusion and kidnapping incidents in the east coast of Sabah since last year.

LDP members hoped that the restructuring of the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESScom) and the additional measures would strengthen ESSCom and put a stop to the intrusion and kidnapping incidents in the long run.

The resolution urged the government to work out a plan to provide immediate assistance to the local tourism industry as the livelihood of many local people is dependent on the arrival of foreign tourists to Sabah.

Over 200 people attended meeting, including LDP president Datuk Teo Chee Kang and LDP deputy president Datuk Chin Su Phin.
