KUALA LUMPUR: An Immigration Department officer is among members of a syndicate wanted by the police for falsifying foreign workers’ work permits.

Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department deputy director (intelligence and operations) Datuk Abdul Jalil Hassan said police had carried out Ops Levy in the Klang Valley yesterday but the suspect, known as Mohamad Rohailizal Ramli, 34, who worked in Putrajaya  had since absconded.

Also on the police wanted list is Mohamed Shairuel Featdzill, 39, believed to be from Seksyen 15, Shah Alam.

“In the operation carried out yesterday, we managed to detain eight men (local), two women from Thailand and an Indonesian with a permanent resident status, aged between 28 and 56.

“Among items seized were eight hand phones, two laptop computers, 223 passports and cash,” he told reporters here yesterday.

Abdul Jalil said the modus operandi of the syndicate was to offer assistance in renewal of foreign workers’ permit through companies  registered in the Klang Valley, Perak, Johor and Pahang.

He said the syndicate that has been operating for the past one year would act as ‘runner’ but instead falsify the documents after receiving payments for renewal from companies.

However, the companies realised the act of the syndicate when submitting the work permits to pay the levy, at the Immigration Department. — Bernama
