International experts start probe on MH17 crash

KUALA LUMPUR: A group of international experts have started to investigate circumstances of Malaysia Airlines (MAS) aircraft crash, said the Ukraine’s president Petro Poroshenko official website yesterday.

According to the website, http://www.president.gov.ua, the Ukrainian government did everything to facilitate the work and the president instructed that the presidential aircraft was provided for the international experts.

“This morning (yesterday) 14 experts arrived to Kharkiv and promptly began their work. Also a special plane departed to Kharkiv from the Netherlands with humanitarian mission (special equipment and coffins are on board) and seven relevant experts,” said the website.

The website further said experts examined and negotiated photo materials sent via e-mail.

“Following the analysis of the commission, it was recommended to pay attention to specific details of the plane and perform panoramic photography of separate parts of the aircraft,” it said.

The website said earlier yesterday experts, working on the crash site, thoroughly examined and documented the wreckage of the centre wing.

Later the work of the commission was focused on the wreckage of the flight deck, the website added.

MH17 was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur when it went down in Ukraine near the Russian border. It was carrying 298 people – 283 passengers and 15 crew. Ukrainian authorities believed that the Boeing 777 aircraft was shot down.

MH17 had left Amsterdam at 12.15 pm (Netherlands time) Thursday and was to have arrived in Kuala Lumpur at 6.10am (Malaysian time) Friday. — Bernama
